The SIngle Indian Male and the small town/city mentality

The Small town /city mentality!!!!!What does this mean?????? Err. Simple. Leave behind big metro cities in this country and you are exposed to the small town/city mentality and what would that be my dear sir???? Well, it is the narrow minded thinking of the people of small towns and cities.

We as the single Indian Men may at times have to  relocate to smaller cities or towns in order to find better opportunities, better career prospects, good salary raises, an opportunity to work in area of your interest and many other reasons.

While at work we may be happy and content finding one hundred job satisfaction, on the personal level there is nothing but frustration and dissatisfaction. Reason????? Small town mentality!!!!!!!

This is nothing but the narrow minded thinking of the people and a rigid Indian society that they live in, as a society that never changed with time. And how do we as the Single Indian Men get affected by it????? Oh Man, give me one reason why we don't.

No one bothers who lives or dies, but people do bother how you live, what you do and why you live in a manner that does not conform to their so called societal norms.

Our Single status get us noticed, they (the people) don't stop asking you questions on why you are single and why you don't get married. They keep on telling you stories of their marriages, on how they got married in their teen years and became young fathers. Ohhhh dear, don't you people have anything better to say.

If we are seen eating alone at a restaurant or drinking coffee at a coffee shop or watching movie at the multiplex, it becomes a talk of the town on what you were doing in our free times.

And female companionship!!!!! Are you serious??? Its as good as dead. In hinterland Indian , either a woman is single or she gets married, nothing in between. Talking to a girl raises eyebrows and in case if you are seen with a woman outside , lord help you!!!!! These small town people make all kinds of gossip stories tarnshing yours and the woman's character and reputation. It is is as good as being in a Middle Eastern country minus the religious police.

Being Single does not give you any chance to have a live in relation or an affair and why should it???After all its the sanctimonious law abiding society that you have to live in. Oh, how we miss female companionship in small towns and cities. Its not that women don't find us desireable, its just that they are repressed by the stricter norms of their society.

Every time you go on a vacation and come back, all that people ask  is , Did you see a girl???? How was she?? Liked her???? , C'mon, do we only take vacations and breaks to see girls, grow up????

We are never made part of the society of the small town, no invitation to any personal social functions????

And if we the single Indian men, backpack and travel to a small city/town, just for enjoying, people give us questioning looks, How come man???? How come a single man is going around and traveling alone??? And we just assure ourselves by saying, "Leave it, its small town mentality, people will never change"!!!!!!!

Weekends and holidays are mostly solitary for us, some us catch up on reading, some pursue their creative interests, some do an advance professional developmental program while some end up watching movies stored on their hard disks. That is what is life for us working in small cities and towns.

The people are narrow minded, they don't like taking up  risks and challenges, they are comfortable in their defined zones of mediocrity and when we talk about opportunities in big cities , all they say is that life will be difficult out there.

And the Single Indian Male observes and says " My dear friend, serve your time, build you competency and shift to a big city, because i tell you what??? Small cities and towns are no place for the single Indian male to live. The mentality of people, the laid back life of the town will just kill you. So take your time, plan and look for better opportunities and relocate to a big city.

This is Bhaveen Sheth singing off for the day, will be back with a lot more.
