Bhaveen Sheth:DOTSIM-On not getting depressed by Facebook and other Social Media Uploads

DOTSIM stands for the Diary of the Single Indian Male

Social Media, something that revolutionized the way we communicated. The decade of 2000's saw the emergence of two forms of online social media, first it was orkut and then it was facebook, twitter was a distant cousin and became interesting for microbloggers.

But my discussion today in not on different types of social media's. It is on how the single Indian male gets affected by the same.

Affected!!!! By Social Media!!!!! I mean you couldn't be serious????????

Yes I am!!!! Imagine , you joined the Social Medial mostly Facebook to get in touch with your friends and just be in the league. This was mostly during your college days. You and your friends then got settled in their respective jobs, happy as ever.

And now the scenario is that you are happy with your Single Life and your job. However whenever you log in to your social media account, you get to see snaps of a friend, college batchmate or school mate getting engaged, married, celebrating his/her honeymoon or becoming a parent and then there you are left behind with only your single status.

This gives you the feeling of being left behind, dejected, sad, depressed and all the other negative emotions that come in your mind. You feel worthless of have done nothing in life.

Don't worry, like you, even i have gone through such times and yes i have had my depressing moments. Somewhere down the line we decided to stay single and we did not regret our decisions, we went against the rules and the norms of the society by staying single, however when we look at the photos of our friends it leaves us depressed.

But let me warn you my dear single Indian Male friends, that the grass in not that green on the other side and marriage in no bed of roses. Ya it certainly looks good on Facebook, but the real picture is something else.

How many times you have seen that friend of yours post pictures of his/her first marriage anniversary. You can count the numbers on your finger tips. Once the baby arrives in the family all the attention goes on him/her and you see the profile being flooded with the photos of the baby.

And then when the Honeymoon phase of marriage us over the real life starts, jobs, work, In-laws expectations, home loans, EMI's, investments and then one fine day you just realize why has your  friend stopped uploading his/her pictures on facebook.

The point that I am trying to make here is that one should not get dejected by the Photo uploads.

Live in your present life and believe that the life that you have chosen and the decisions that you have taken are the best. Just live in your present and be happy with it.

And yes, let not married people only get the chance of uploading their pics on the social media, as a single person you should also do the same, upload the pics of your solitary life, visit the city you live in a take pictures of different places, dine in different eateries, every three or four months pick up your bag pack and visit some location in India, make a girlfriend and spend some quality time with her  and don't forget to take pictures of all your travels. Once you upload the pics on your social networking profile, your friends will be equally amazed at the solitary life you are enjoying and and you will certainly be envied.

So please don't get sad or dejected just because you are single, go out there and live your life.

This is Bhaveen Sheth signing off for the day, will be back with a lot  more.
